Active School Travel is a Brisbane City Council Initiative for primary schools across Brisbane. It offers a program that encourages everyone to leave the car at home and actively travel to school!
Bazil Grumble’s team of Active School Travel performers visit schools all across Brisbane. Students get to meet Walker, Ryder and Scoot in an interactive and engaging assembly performance. The three characters promote road safety and sustainable travel options such as walking, riding, scootering, carpooling and public transport.
Through movement, song, dance and a healthy dose of enthusiasm, the team of performers activate the minds of young people all across Brisbane.

The team encourages students to participate in their school’s weekly Active Travel Day. A regular Active Travel Day promotes long-term increase in active travel for schools. Near the end of the performance, Ryder pulls a massive gym bag over their shoulders that is full of prizes students can win for actively travelling. The Golden Star, Golden Boot, cricket set, skipping rope and frisbee are among the many prizes that get students jumping with excitement in their seats.
Brisbane City Council also offer a range of resources for schools to kickstart their Active Travel Mission. If you’re interested in learning more about the Active School Travel Program, you can visit the Brisbane City Council website.
